Day 1

Milan to Piedmont

Arrival in Milan Airport. Meeting with our driver. Transfer to La Morra, capital of the Barolo district, and meeting with our guide. Accommodation in a refined, intimate country Relais with breathtaking view over the nebbiolo vineyards. Welcoming aperitif. Meeting with Elio Altare, (chosen as “vine grower of the year 2005” by the Gambero Rosso guide ) a humble and enthusiastic innovator of Barolo. Guided visit to his small family cellar and exclusive tasting session. Typical Piedmont Supper.

Day 2

Barolo

King Barolo. A short walk through La Morra, along the narrow streets of the medieval “concentrico” Visit to the Benedictine Abbey of S. Martino di Marcenasco, a Roman Baroque building whose wine cellars house the Ratti Museum, dedicated to the wine/vine history. Tasting of Barolo at the Wine Estate Fratelli Oddero (founded in 1878). Proceed to the village of Barolo: visit to the Falletti medieval where the legendary story of the “King of Wines“ was born (19th century). Tasting session of Barolo Classico (made according to tradition) at the Winery “Giacomo Borgogno & Figli.” Short cookery lesson in Piedmontese cuisine and dinner with typical dishes.

Day 3

Alba and Barbaresco

Alba and Barbaresco. A memorable path among the great nebbiolo vineyards and celebrated estates. In the village of Barbaresco, a walk around the famous 10th century tower and a visit to the Enoteca Regionale, oddly situated in a deconsecrated Baroque church. Tasting Session at I produttori del Barbaresco with a detailed explanation of “terroir," techniques and history of this superb wine. Lunch at Restaurant La Piola in Alba a fine modern designed restaurant. A stroll in the fascinating medieval centre of Alba, worldwide capital of the White Truffle. Extraordinary opportunities for wine and food shopping. Guided visit to the historical Cellar Pio Cesare with tasting of superb Barolo and Barbaresco.

Day 4

Piedmont

The truffle, contemporary art and wine. Departure from your hotel and visit to Casa del Trifulau (Truffle home), truffle hunting and tasting. Lunch at Restaurant Castello di Grinzane with a local tasting menu and wine matching. Guided visit to the Brunate Chappel. Visit to the cellar in Bricco Rocche and to the Cube with wine tasting of all the wines produced by Ceretto at L’Acino.

Day 5

Greve in Chianti

Transfer to Greve in Chianti. Lunch at Restaurant La Scuderia in Badia a Passignano, meeting with our guide and introduction to the program in Tuscany. Guided itinerary to Greve, the market square and the food artisans. Guided visit to the winery Casaloste, a quaint wine maker internationally recognized.

Day 6

Chianti Classico

The Supertuscans in the Chianti Classico area. A guided itinerary through the most famous wine makers in the area: Felsina winery in Castelnuovo Berardenga, and Montevertine winery. Lunch at Restaurant Le Panzanelle in Radda in Chianti. Visit to Fontodi winery, they produce Flaccianello della Pieve, Case Via Pinot, Case Via Syrah and Meriggio. Guided visit and a coffee in Radda in Chianti.

Day 7

Montalcino

Montalcino and the Brunello. The history of the Tuscan wine, as a high quality product, was born here. We visit Biondi Santi winery, a sort of cathedral devoted to the Brunello. Next, Cerbaiona winery with its 97 point rating by Robert Parker Brunello. Special tasting menu in Enoteca Osticcio. Visit Talenti winery, a young and passionate wine maker. Complete the day with a visit to the fantastic Abbey of Sant’Antimo.

Day 8

Coastal Wines

Bolgheri and the Coastal wines. The invention of a Bordeaux wine produced along the Tuscan coast. Today's visits include the temple of the Sassicaia in Tenuta San Guido by Marchese Incisa della Rocchetta, and the Ornellaia and the Masseto in Tenuta dell’Ornellaia. Fine tasting menu and a collection of local wines at Enoteca Tognoni in Castello di Bolgheri, a simple and quaint wine maker.

Day 9

Departure

Free morning and private transfer to Florence or Pisa Airport for your departure.
